ROCK SPRINGS, WY – The Rock Springs-Sweetwater County Airport will be undertaking a massive construction project this August & September to rehabilitate it’s primary Commercial Service Runway (RWY 9/27). This project will involve milling and overlaying the runway with a new surface coat of asphalt, rehabilitating the Runway Lighting, relocating numerous service roads, and installing a new surface condition monitoring system.
In order to accomplish this project, RWY 9/27 will be closed the following Dates & Times:
August 8 – 12th: 6:30 AM – 10:00 PM
August 15th – 19th: 6:30 AM – 10:00 PM
August 20th: 6:30 AM – 7:30 PM
August 22nd – 26th: 6:30 AM – 10:00 PM
August 27th: 6:30 AM – 7:30 PM
Additionally, RWY 3/21 will need to be closed for three days (August 22, 23, 24th) from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. During this closure on these three days, it will leave the airport without a runway for fixed wing operations. Rotorcraft Operations will still be available.

- Resurface with 26,000 tons of asphalt overlay.

- Purchase lighted closure displays for safety during runway closures.
- Install a runway surface sensor system for better snow removal management.
- Relocate holding positions on taxiways to meet FAA’s latest safety standards.
