Dates changed for Commemorative Air Force B-25 visit to RKS due to flight crew shortage
ROCK SPRINGS, WY ─ The Commemorative Air Force has informed the Rock Springs-Sweetwater County Airport that the dates for its tour stop in Sweetwater County next week have been changed due to the lack of available flight crews to get the aircraft from Provo, UT to RKS. The B-25 will now arrive around noon on July 8th and after a media flight, be available for public tours and flights. In addition, the Rock Springs Rotary Club will be offering a great dinner option for families with a cookout at the airport starting at 4:00 pm on Friday.
“Having the Rotary Club; a great local charitable organization, partner with the airport to provide a great dinner option for families while they tour this historic B-25 Bomber is a great opportunity for families to start the weekend off right,” said Devon Brubaker, Airport Manager.
The Rotary Club is a worldwide organization that proclaims, “We are 1.2 million neighbors, friends, and community leaders who come together to create positive, lasting change in our communities and around the world.”
Visitors will be able to enjoy great food, tour the aircraft, “breathe in the history” and talk with volunteers from the nonprofit organization about the plane.
The CAF will also be offering rides in what some say is a “Ride of a lifetime.” No matter where you sit, the views are great. As you feel the 1700hp kick in on takeoff, you will get a taste of what our veterans did flying aircraft like the B-25 in combat and the sacrifices they made for the freedom we enjoy today.
This amazing opportunity to step-back-in-time and remember the Heroes of WWII and the aircraft in which they used is made possible by the following sponsors: Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County, J.R. Simplot Company, RSNB Bank, Overland West (Hertz), the Rock Springs Holiday Inn & Suites, and the AvFuel Corporation.
The WWII bomber is maintained and operated as a flying museum and memorial by the all-volunteer, non-profit Commemorative Air Force. The B-25 bomber, “Maid in the Shade,” is a veteran with 15 combat missions flying out of Corsica during the war. The restoration to bring the aircraft back to flying condition took 28 years and was completed in May 2009.
This will be a great opportunity for airplane enthusiasts, history buffs and children to see the famous aircraft.
The B-25J will arrive July 8th in the afternoon and be open for tours Friday afternoon/evening through Sunday, July 10. Living history flights are being scheduled for Friday July 8, Saturday July 9, and Sunday July 10. This once-in-a-lifetime experience in meticulously restored and maintained warbirds will thrill those on the ground as they enviously watch passengers brief-and-board, and roar overhead in tribute to every service man and woman in the U.S.A. past and present.
